What is Foretales about?
You play Volepain, a small-time criminal bird who suddenly sees visions of the coming end of the world. A dark prophecy, a cursed realm, and several highly suspicious factions turn an ordinary job into a journey that might save the entire world - or destroy it, because Foretales also lets you make decisions that are neither heroic nor sensible.
Cards are more than attacks
Foretales is not a conventional card game about throwing ever larger damage numbers at enemies. You play cards on places, people, and situations to decide how to solve a problem. Depending on your party and hand, you can talk to or bribe characters, sneak past danger, trade, prepare a deception, or begin a proper card-powered brawl.
Companions have their own abilities and open alternative routes through the story. Decisions alter later events, unlock new branches, and can lead to different endings. The developer describes the idea as a mixture of storytelling, experimentation, and “decksploration.”
More adventure than classic deck builder
Visually, Foretales resembles an animated board game. Hand-drawn animal characters, cards, and locations give it a distinctive style, while turn-based combat and limited resources provide the strategy. It includes branching stories, multiple endings, many characters, and 41 achievements. Music contributors include Christophe Héral, known for Rayman and Beyond Good & Evil, while Travis Willingham provides the English narration. German text and subtitles are supported, but voices are English only. Foretales is a single-player game.
